Following is the official list of American military personnel killed in Operation Iraqi Freedom in September 2003.  Click on the name to go to the "Fallen Heroes Memorial" page where you can leave condolences and remembrances.  Recent entries may not yet be linked.

Sept. 30:

Army Spc. Dustin K. McGaugh, 20, of Derby, Kan. Died in Balad, Iraq, from a non-hostile gunshot wound. Assigned to the Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 17th Field Artillery Brigade, Fort Sill, Okla.

Sept. 29:

Army Sgt. Andrew Joseph Baddick, 26. Died when he tried to rescue another soldier whose vehicle had entered a canal near Abu Ghraib Prison, Iraq, and drowned. Assigned to the 1st Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, Fort Bragg, N.C.

Army Staff Sgt. Christopher E. Cutchall, 30, of McConnellsburg, Pa. Killed west of Baghdad, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated as his vehicle passed by. Assigned to Delta Troop, 4th Cavalry, Fort Riley, Kan.

Army Sgt. Darrin K. Potter, 24, of Louisville, Ky. Killed near Abu Ghraib Prison, Iraq, when his vehicle left the road and went into a canal. Assigned to the 223rd Military Police Company, U.S. Army National Guard, Louisville, Ky.

Sept 25:


Army Capt.Robert L. Lucero, 34, of Casper, Wyo. Died in Tikrit, Iraq, when struck by an improvised explosive device. Assigned to the 4th Infantry Division Rear Area Operation Center, U.S. Army National Guard, Casper, Wyo.

Army Sgt. 1st Class Robert E. Rooney, 43, of Nashua, N.H. Died at Shuabai Port, in Kuwait, when he was struck by a forklift. Assigned to the 379th Engineer Company, U.S. Army National Guard, based in Bourne, Mass.

Army Spc.Kyle G. Thomas, 23, of Topeka, Kan. Died of injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device exploded while he was on patrol. Assigned to 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade, based in Fort Ederle, Italy.

Sept. 24:

Army Spc. Michael Andrade, 28, of Bristol, R.I. Died from injuries sustained when a 5-ton truck struck the side of his vehicle in Balad, Iraq. Assigned to the 115th Military Police Company, U.S. Army National Guard, Cranston, R.I.

Sept. 22:

Army Spc. Paul J. Sturino, 21, of Rice Lake, Wis. Died in Quest, Iraq, from a non-combat weapons discharge. Assigned to B Battery, 2nd Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment, Fort Campbell, Ky.

Sept. 20:

Army Spc. Lunsford B. Brown II, 27, of Creedmore, N.C. Killed in a mortar attack in Abu Gareeb, Iraq. Assigned to A Company, 302nd Military Intelligence Battalion, Patton Barracks, Germany.

Army Sgt. David T. Friedrich, 26, of Hammond, N.Y. Killed in a mortar attack in Abu Gareeb, Iraq. Assigned to B Company, 325th Military Intelligence Battalion, U.S. Army Reserve, Waterbury, Conn.

Army Staff Sgt. Frederick L. Miller, Jr., 27, of Hagerstown, Ind. Killed in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, when an explosive device hit his vehicle during a security patrol. Assigned to Troop K, 3rd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Carson, Colo.

Sept. 18:

Army Spc. Richard Arriaga, 20, of Ganado, Texas. Killed in an ambush by small arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades in Tikrit, Iraq. Assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 4th Battalion, 42nd Field Artillery Regiment, Fort Hood, Texas.

Army Capt. Brian R. Faunce, 28, of Philadelphia, Pa. Killed in Al Asad, Iraq, when his military vehicle crossed under some low laying power lines and he reached up and grabbed the lines. Assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, Fort Carson, Colo.

Army Sgt. Anthony O. Thompson, 26, of Orangeburg, S.C. Killed in an ambush by small arms fire and rocket propelled grenades in Tikrit, Iraq. Assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 4th Battalion, 42nd Field Artillery Regiment, Fort Hood, Texas.

Army Spc. James C. Wright, 27, of Morgan, Texas. Killed in an ambush by small arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades in Tikrit, Iraq. Assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 4th Battalion, 42nd Field Artillery Regiment, Fort Hood, Texas.


Sept. 15:

Army Staff Sgt. Kevin C. Kimmerly, 31, of North Creek, N.Y. Killed in Baghdad when his vehicle was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade while on patrol. Assigned to B Battery, 4th Battalion, 27th Field Artillery Regiment, based in Baumholder, Germany.

Army Spc. Alyssa R. Peterson, 27, of Flagstaff, Ariz. Died in Telafar, Iraq, from a non-combat weapons discharge. Assigned to C Company, 311th Military Intelligence Battalion, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.

Sept. 14:

Army Sgt. Trevor A. Blumberg, 22, of Canton, Mich. Killed in Baghdad when two improvised explosive devices struck his vehicle while on patrol. Assigned to 1st Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.

Sept. 12:

Army Sgt. 1st Class William M. Bennett, 35, of Seymour, Tenn. Killed in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, when his unit executed a raid on enemy forces. Assigned to 3rd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group, Fort Campbell, Ky.

Army Master Sgt. Kevin N. Morehead, 33, of Little Rock, Ark. Killed in Ar Ramadi, Iraq when his unit executed a raid on enemy forces. Assigned to 3rd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group, Fort Campbell, Ky.

Sept. 11:

Army Sgt. Henry Ybarra III, 32, of Austin, Texas. Died in Balad, Iraq, when he was changing the tire on a military truck and the tire exploded. Assigned to D Troop, 6th Squadron, 6th Cavalry, Illesheim, Germany.

Sept. 10:

Army Staff Sgt. Joseph E. Robsky, Jr., 31, of Elizaville, N.Y. Killed in Baghdad when he answered a call to neutralize an improvised explosive device and it detonated. Assigned to the 759th Ordnance Company, Fort Irwin, Calif.

Sept. 9:

Army Spc. Ryan G. Carlock, 25, of Macomb, Ill. Died of injuries sustained northwest of Baghdad when his fuel truck came under attack. Assigned to the 416th Transportation Company, 260th Quartermaster Battalion (Petroleum Support), Hunter Army Airfield, Ga.

Sept. 7:

Army Spc. Jarrett B. Thompson, 27, of Dover, Del. Died at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.,  Spc. Thompson was in a convoy on August 30 when a civilian vehicle passed the convoy and cut in front of the lead military vehicle and an approaching Iraqi truck. The driver of the civilian vehicle hit Thompson's truck.   Spc. Thompson was assigned to the 946th Transportation Company, U.S. Army Reserve, Lewes, Del.

Sep. 4:

Air Force Tech. Sgt. Bruce E. Brown, 32, of Coatopa, Alabama.
Brown was killed in a motor vehicle accident near Al Udeid, Qatar. He was a fuels supervisor assigned to the 78th Logistics Readiness Squadron, Robins Air Force Base, Georgia.

Sept. 2:

Army Pfc. Christopher A. Sisson, 20, of Oak Park, Ill. Died in Baghdad when his helicopter crashed on takeoff during an air assault mission. Assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 325th Parachute Infantry Regiment, Fort Bragg, N.C.

Sept. 1:

Army Sgt. Charles T. Caldwell, 38, of North Providence, R.I. Died south of Baghdad when his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device. Assigned to the 115th Military Police Company, U.S. Army National Guard, Cranston, R.I.

Army Staff Sgt. Joseph Camara, 40, of New Bedford, Mass. Died south of Baghdad when his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device. Assigned to the 115th Military Police Company, U.S. Army National Guard, Cranston, R.I.

Army Staff Sgt. Cameron B. Sarno, 43, of Waipahu, Hawaii. Died in Kuwait City when he was hit by a truck while changing his vehicle's tire. Assigned to the 257th Transportation Company, U.S. Army Reserve, Las Vegas, Nev.
