December 31:

Lance Cpl. Jason E. Smith, 21, of Phoenix, Ariz., died as result of hostile action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Lance Cpl. Smith was assigned to 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.

December 30:

Sgt. Damien T. Ficek, 26, from Pullman, Wash., died in Baghdad, Iraq, when his patrol was attacked by enemy forces using small arms fire. Ficek was assigned to the Army National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 161st Infantry Regiment, Spokane, Wash.

December 29:

Spc. Craig L. Nelson, 21, from Bossier City, La., died at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., of injuries sustained Dec. 16 in Baghdad, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his military vehicle. Nelson was assigned to the Army National Guard's 1st Battalion, 156th Armor Regiment, Shreveport, La.

Pfc. Oscar Sanchez, 19, from Modesto, Calif., died in Mosul, Iraq, when a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device struck his observation post. Pfc. Sanchez was assigned to 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), Fort Lewis, Wash.

December 28:

Navy Seaman Pablito Pena Briones, Jr., 22, of Anaheim, Calf., died of a non-hostile gun shot wound in Fallujah, Iraq. Seaman Briones was assigned to 1st Marine Division Detachment, Naval Medical Center San Diego.

Staff Sgt. Jason A. Lehto, 31, of Mount Clemens, Mich., died in a non-hostile incident in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Lehto was assigned to Marine Forces Reserve’s Marine Wing Support Group 47, 4th Marine Aircraft Wing, Mt. Clemens, Mich.

Staff Sgt. Nathaniel J. Nyren, 31, from Reston, Va., died in Baghdad, Iraq on when a civilian vehicle struck his military vehicle. Staff Sgt. Nyren was assigned to the Army’s 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division in Fort Hood, Texas.

December 27:

Staff Sgt. Todd D. Olson, 36, from Loyal, Wis., died in the 67th Combat Support Hospital in Tikrit, Iraq from wounds sustained in Samarra, Iraq on Dec. 26, when an improvised explosive device detonated. Staff Sgt. Olson was assigned to the National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 128th Infantry Regiment, Neillsville, Wis.

Spc. Jose A. Rivera-Serrano, 26, from Mayaquez, Puerto Rico, died in Baghdad, Iraq, from wounds sustained when an improvised explosive device hit his vehicle. Spc. Rivera-Serrano was assigned to the 2d Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, Fort Hood, Texas.

December 23:

1st Lt. Christopher W. Barnett, 32, of Baton Rouge, La., died in Baghdad, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his military vehicle. 1st Lt. Barnett was assigned to the Army National Guard's 1st Battalion, 156th Armor Regiment, 256th Brigade Combat Team, Shreveport, La.

Lance Cpl. Eric Hillenburg, 21, of Marion, Ind., died as result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Lance Cpl. Hillenburg was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Lance Cpl. James R. Phillips, 21, of Hillsboro, Fla., died as result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Lance Cpl. Phillips was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Cpl. Raleigh C. Smith, 21, of Lincoln, Mont., died as result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Cpl. Smith was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif.

December 21:

Pfc. Lionel Ayro, 22, of Jeanerette, La., died in Mosul, Iraq, when his dining facility was attacked. Pfc. Ayro was assigned to the 73rd Engineer Company, 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), Fort Lewis, Wash.

Chief Joel Egan Baldwin, 37, of Arlington, Va., died in Mosul, Iraq when the dining facility was attacked. Chief Baldwin was assigned to Navy Mobile Construction Battalion 7, Gulfport, Miss.

Spc. Jonathan Castro, 21, of Corona, Calif., died in Mosul, Iraq, when his dining facility was attacked. Spc. Castro was assigned to the 73rd Engineer Company, 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), Fort Lewis, Wash.

Spc. Thomas J. Dostie, 20, of Sommerville, Maine, died in Mosul, Iraq, when his dining facility was attacked. Spc. Dostie was assigned to the Army National Guard's 133rd Engineer Battalion, Portland, Maine.

Spc. Cory M. Hewitt, 26, of Stewart, Tenn., died in Mosul, Iraq, when his dining facility was attacked. Spc. Hewitt was assigned to the 705th Ordnance Company, Fort Polk, La.

Capt. William W. Jacobsen Jr., 31, of Charlotte, N.C., died in Mosul, Iraq, when his dining facility was attacked. Capt. Jacobsen was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), Fort Lewis, Wash.

Staff Sgt. Robert S. Johnson, 23, of Castro Valley, Calif., died in Mosul, Iraq, when his dining facility was attacked. Staff Sgt. Johnson was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), Fort Lewis, Wash.

Sgt. 1st Class Paul D. Karpowich, 30, of Bridgeport, Pa., died in Mosul, Iraq, when his dining facility was attacked. Sgt. 1st Class Karpowich was assigned to the Army Reserve's 2nd Battalion, 390th Infantry Regiment, Webster, N.Y.

Spc. Nicholas C. Mason, 20, of King George, Va., died in Mosul, Iraq, when his dining facility was attacked. Spc. Mason was assigned to the Army National Guard's 276th Engineer Battalion, West Point, Va.

Staff Sgt. Julian S. Melo, 47, of Brooklyn, N.Y., died in Mosul, Iraq, when his dining facility was attacked. Staff Sgt. Melo was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), Fort Lewis, Wash.

Sgt. Maj. Robert D. O'Dell, 38, of Manassas, Va., died in Mosul, Iraq, when his dining facility was attacked. Sgt. Maj. O'Dell was assigned to the United States Army Intelligence & Security Command, Fort Belvoir, Va.

Lance Cpl. Neil D. Petsche, 21, of Lena, Ill., died due to injuries received in a non-hostile vehicle incident in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Petsche was assigned to 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, Calif.

Sgt. Lynn R. Poulin Sr., 47, of Freedom, Maine, died in Mosul, Iraq, when his dining facility was attacked. Sgt. Poulin was assigned to the Army National Guard's 133rd Engineer Battalion, Belfast, Maine.

Spc. David A. Ruhren, 20, of Stafford, Va., died in Mosul, Iraq, when his dining facility was attacked. Ruhren was assigned to the Army National Guard's 276th Engineer Battalion, West Point, Va.

Staff Sgt. Darren D. VanKomen, 33, of Bluefield, W.Va., died in Mosul, Iraq, when his dining facility was attacked. Staff Sgt. VanKomen was assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 14th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), Fort Lewis, Wash.

December 19:

Staff Sgt. Donald B. Farmer, 33, of Zion, Ill., died in Shuaybah, Kuwait, when a vehicle struck them.   Staff Sgt. Farmer was assigned to the 180th Transportation Battalion, 13th Corps Support Command, Fort Hood, Texas.

Sgt. Berry K. Meza, 23, of League City, Texas, died in Shuaybah, Kuwait, when a vehicle struck them.   Sgt. Meza was assigned to the 180th Transportation Battalion, 13th Corps Support Command, Fort Hood, Texas.

December 16:

Lance Cpl. Franklin A. Sweger, 24, of San Antonio, Texas, died as a result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Hawaii.

December 14:

Cpl. Michael D. Anderson, 21, of Modesto, Calif., died as result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Spc. Victor A. Martinez, 21, from Bronx, N.Y., died south of Baghdad, Iraq, from a gunshot wound. Martinez was assigned to the 364th Supply Company, 264th Corps Support Battalion, 1st Corps Support Command, Fort Bragg, N.C.

December 13:

Sgt. Tina S. Time, 22, from Tucson, Ariz., died near Cedar, Iraq, when she was involved in a vehicle accident. Time was assigned to the Army Reserve's 208th Transportation Company, Tucson, Ariz.

Pfc. Brent T. Vroman, 21, of Oshkosh, Wis., died from wounds received as a result of enemy action in Babil Province, Iraq. He was assigned to the Marine Corps Reserve’s 2nd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, headquartered in Chicago, Ill.

Lance Cpl. Richard D. Warner, 22, of Waukesha, Wis., died from wounds received as a result of enemy action in Babil Province, Iraq. Lance Cpl. Warner was assigned to the Marine Corps Reserve’s 2nd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, headquartered in Chicago, Ill.

December 12:

Lance Cpl. Jeffery S. Blanton, 23, of Fayetteville, Ga., died as a result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Hawaii.

Staff Sgt. Melvin L. Blazer, 38, of Moore, Okla., died as result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Staff Sgt. Blazer was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Cpl. Jason S. Clairday, 21, of Camp, Ark., died as result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.   Cpl. Clairday was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Lance Cpl. Joshua W. Dickinson, 25, of New Port Richey, Fla., died as result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Sgt. Jeffrey L. Kirk, 24, of Baton Rouge, La., died as result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Lance Cpl. Hilario F. Lopez, 22, of Ingleside, Texas, died as result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Lance Cpl. Lopez was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Pfc. Joshua A. Ramsey, 19, from Defiance, Ohio, died in Baghdad, Iraq, from non-combat related injuries. Ramsey was assigned to the 95th Military Police Battalion, Mannheim, Germany.

Cpl. Ian W. Stewart, 21, of Lake Hughes, Calif., died as result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.   Cpl. Stewart was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif.

December 11:

Spc. Robert W. Hoyt, 21, of Ashford, Conn., died in Baghdad, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV while conducting convoy operations. Hoyt was assigned to the Army National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 102nd Infantry Regiment, Bristol, Conn.

Lance Cpl. Gregory P. Rund, 21, of Littleton, Colo., died as result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Lance Cpl. Rund was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif.

December 09:

Pfc. Christopher S. Adlesperger, 20, of Albuquerque, N.M. died as result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Adlesperger was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Chief Warrant Officer Patrick D. Leach, 39, of Rock Hill, S.C., died in Mosul, Iraq after being involved in an Apache helicopter accident. Chief Warrant Officer Leach was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 151st Aviation Regiment, South Carolina National Guard, Columbia, S.C.

Cpl. Kyle J. Renehan, 21, of Oxford, Pa., died in Kaiserslautern, Germany, from injuries received on Nov. 29 as result of enemy action in Babil Province, Iraq. He was assigned to Marine Air Control Squadron 2, Marine Air Control Group 28, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C.

1st Lt. Andrew C. Shields, 25, of Campobello, S.C., died in Mosul, Iraq after being involved in an Apache helicopter accident. 1st Lt. Shields was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 151st Aviation Regiment, South Carolina National Guard, Columbia, S.C.

December 08:

Sgt. Arthur C. Williams, IV, 31, of Edgewater, Fla., died in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, when his unit was conducting a dismounted patrol and was attacked by small arms fire. Williams was assigned to the 44th Engineer Battalion, 2d Infantry Division, Camp Howze, Korea.

December 07:

Sgt. 1st Class Todd C. Gibbs, 37, of Angelina, Texas, died in Khalidiyah, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated while his unit was on a dismounted patrol.   Gibbs was assigned to 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, Camp Greaves, Korea.

Cpl. In C. Kim, 23, of Warren, Mich., died as result of a non-hostile vehicle incident in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. He was assigned to 9th Communications Battalion, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Capt. Mark N. Stubenhofer, 30, of Springfield, Va., died in Baghdad, Iraq, when his unit was conducting dismounted operations and was attacked by small arms fire.   Stubenhofer was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 41st Infantry Regiment, 1st Armored Division, Fort Riley, Kan.

December 05:

Staff Sgt. Kyle A. Eggers, 27, of Euless, Texas, died in Habbaniyah, Iraq, when his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device. Eggers was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, Camp Greaves, Korea.

Spc. Edwin W. Roodhouse, 36, of San Jose, Calif., died in Habbaniyah, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV. Spc. Roodhouse was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, Camp Greaves, Korea.

Staff Sgt. Marvin L. Trost III, 28, of Goshen, Ind., died in Habbaniyah, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV. Staff Sgt. Trost was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, Camp Greaves, Korea.

Pfc. Andrew M. Ward, 25, of Kirkland, Wash., died in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, when his unit was attacked by enemy forces using small arms fire. Ward was assigned to the 44th Engineer Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division, Camp Howze, Korea.

December 04:

Cpl. Joseph O. Behnke, 45, of Brooklyn, New York, died in Baghdad, Iraq, when he was in a vehicle accident. Behnke was assigned to the Army National Guard's 1st Battalion, 258th Field Artillery Regiment, Brooklyn, New York.

Sgt. Michael L. Boatright, 24, of Whitesboro, Texas died in Baghdad, Iraq, when he was struck by an improvised explosive device. Sgt. Boatright was assigned to the 20th Engineer Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Sgt. Cari A. Gasiewicz, 28, of Depew, N.Y., died in Baqubah, Iraq, when two improvised explosive devices detonated near her convoy. Gasiewicz was assigned to the 202nd Military Intelligence Battalion, 513th Military Intelligence Brigade, Fort Gordon, Ga.

Sgt. David A. Mitts, 24, of Hammond, Ore., died in Mosul, Iraq, when his Stryker military vehicle received enemy fire during convoy operations. Sgt. Mitts was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), Fort Lewis, Washington.

Staff Sgt. Salamo J. Tuialuuluu, 23, of Pago Pago, American Samoa., died in Mosul, Iraq, when his Stryker military vehicle received enemy fire during convoy operations. Staff Sgt. Tuialuuluu was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), Fort Lewis, Washington.

December 03:

Staff Sgt. Henry E. Irizarry, 38, of Bronx, New York, died in Taji, Iraq, when his unit was on patrol and an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV. Irizarry was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 69th Infantry Regiment, New York, N.Y.

Cpl. Binh N. Le, 20, of Alexandria, Va., died from injuries received as result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Cpl. Le was assigned to 5th Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Spc. David P. Mahlenbrock, 20, of Maple Shade, N.J., died in Kirkuk, Iraq, when he was clearing a route and an improvised explosive device detonated. Mahlenbrock was assigned to the 65th Engineer Battalion, 25th Infantry Division (Light), Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

Cpl. Matthew A. Wyatt, 21, of Millstadt, Ill., died from injuries received as result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Cpl. Wyatt was assigned to 5th Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

December 02:

Pfc. George D. Harrison, 22, of Knoxville, Tenn., died in Mosul, Iraq, when his HMMWV was attacked by enemy forces using small arms fire. Harrison was assigned to the 293rd Military Police Company, 3rd Military Police Battalion (Provisional), 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga.

December 01:

Spc. Isaac E. Diaz, 26, of Rio Hondo, Texas, died in Sharona, Afghanistan, when his military vehicle rolled over. Diaz was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division (Light) from Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

Spc. David M. Fisher, 21, of Green Island, N.Y., died in Baghdad, Iraq, when his unit was on patrol and the HMWWV in which he was riding rolled over. Fisher was assigned to the Army National Guard's 1st Battalion, 101st Cavalry Regiment, Newburgh, N.Y.

Cpl Zachary A. Kolda, 23, of Corpus Christi, Texas, died as result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. He was assigned to the Marine Forces Reserves’ 1st Battalion, 23rd Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Houston, Texas.

Gunnery Sgt. Javier Obleas-Prado Pena, 36, of Falls Church, Va., died at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany, from injuries received Nov. 25, as result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. He was assigned to 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Cpl. Bryan S. Wilson, 22, of Otterbein, Ind., died as result of a non-hostile vehicle incident in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.
