List of Killed in Action in Operation Enduring Freedom 2002

December 20, 2002

Army Sgt. Steven Checo, 22, of New York City, New York.
Checo was killed in action when his unit came under attack from hostile forces. Checo was a member of the 504th Infantry, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

November 7, 2002

Army Spc. Pedro Pena, 35, of Florida.
Pena died in Kuwait. He was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia.

October 14, 2002

Army Pvt. James H. Ebbers, 19, of Bridgeview, Illinois.
Died in Djibuoti, Africa.

October 8, 2002

Marine Lance Cpl. Antonio J. Sledd, 20, of Hillsborough, Florida.
Sledd died in Kuwait from wounds received in action while participating in an urban exercise as part of Exercise Eager Mace. He was assigned to Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, Camp Pendleton, California.

October 2, 2002

Army Sgt. 1st Class Mark Wayne Jackson, 40, of Glennie, Michigan.
Jackson was killed in an explosion at an open-air market outside the gate of Camp Enrile Malagutay, in Zamboanga, Philippines. He was assigned to the 1st Special Forces Group, Fort Lewis, Washington.

August 7, 2002

Army Sgt. 1st Class Christopher J. Speer, 28, of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Died in Afghanistan.

June 12, 2002

Air Force Tech. Sgt. Sean M. Corlew, 37, of Thousand Oaks, California.
Corlew died in the crash of a U.S. Air Force MC-130H Combat Talon II aircraft in the Paktika province of Afghanistan. He was assigned to the Air Force's 16th Special Operations Wing, Hurlburt Field, Florida.

Air Force Staff Sgt. Anissa A. Shero, 31, of Grafton, West Virginia.
Shero died in the crash of a U.S. Air Force MC-130H Combat Talon II aircraft in the Paktika province of Afghanistan. She was assigned to the Air Force's 16th Special Operations Wing, Hurlburt Field, Florida.

Army Sgt. 1st Class Peter P. Tycz II, 32, of Tonawanda, New York.
Tycz died in the crash of a U.S. Air Force MC-130H Combat Talon II aircraft in the Paktika province of Afghanistan. He was assigned to the Army's 3rd Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

May 19, 2002

Army Staff Sgt. Gene Arden Vance, Jr., 38, of Morgantown, West Virginia.
Vance was killed when his unit came under attack from hostile forces in Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 19th Special Forces Group, West Virginia National Guard.

April 15, 2002

Army Staff Sgt. Brian T. Craig, 27, of Texas.
Craig died as the result of an explosion during explosive clearing operations in Qandahar, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 710th Explosive Ordnance Detachment, San Diego, California.

Army Staff Sgt. Justin. J. Galewski, 28, of Kansas.
Galewski died as the result of an explosion during explosive clearing operations in Qandahar, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 710th Explosive Ordnance Detachment, San Diego, California.

Army Sgt. Jamie O. Maugans, 27, of Kansas.
Maugans died as the result of an explosion during explosive clearing operations in Qandahar, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 710th Explosive Ordnance Detachment, San Diego, California.

Army Sgt. 1st Class Daniel A. Romero, 30, of Colorado.
Romero died as the result of an explosion during explosive clearing operations in Qandahar, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 19th Special Forces Group, Pueblo, Colorado.

March 27, 2002

Navy SEAL CWO Matthew J. Bourgeois, 35, of Tallahassee, Florida.
Bourgeois was killed while conducting small unit training at a remote site near Qandahar, Afghanistan.

March 4, 2002

Army Spc. Marc A. Anderson, 30, of Brandon, Florida.
Killed in action in eastern Afghanistan during Operation Anaconda.

Air Force Tech. Sgt. John A. Chapman, 36, of Waco, Texas.
Killed in action in eastern Afghanistan during Operation Anaconda.

Army Pfc. Matthew A. Commons, 21, of Boulder City, Nevada.
Killed in action in eastern Afghanistan during Operation Anaconda.

Army Sgt. Bradley S. Crose, 22, of Orange Park, Florida.
Killed in action in eastern Afghanistan during Operation Anaconda. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia.

Air Force Senior Airman Jason D. Cunningham, 26, of Camarillo, California.
Killed in action in eastern Afghanistan during Operation Anaconda.

Navy Aviation Boatswain's Mate-Handling Petty Officer 1st Class Neil C. Roberts, 32, of Woodland, California.
Killed in action in eastern Afghanistan during Operation Anaconda.

Army Sgt. Philip J. Svitak, 31, of Joplin, Missouri.
Killed in action in eastern Afghanistan during Operation Anaconda.

March 2, 2002

Army CWO Stanley L. Harriman, 34, of Wade, North Carolina.
Harriman was killed in action as the result of enemy fire. He was assigned to the 3rd Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

February 27, 2002

Army Spc. Curtiss A. Carter, 25, of Lafayette, Indiana.
Died in Kuwait.

Army Spc. Thomas F. Allison, 22, of Roy, Washington.
Allison was on board the MH-47 aircraft that crashed at sea in the southern Philippines. He was assigned to the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

Army Staff Sgt. James P. Dorrity, 37, of Goldsboro, North Carolina.
Dorrity was on board the MH-47 aircraft that crashed at sea in the southern Philippines. He was assigned to the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

Army CWO2 Jody L. Egnor, 32, of Middletown, Ohio.
Egnor was on board the MH-47 aircraft that crashed at sea in the southern Philippines. He was assigned to the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

Army Maj. Curtis D. Feistner, 34, of White Bear Lake, Minnesota.
Feistner was on board the MH-47 aircraft that crashed at sea in the southern Philippines. He was assigned to the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

Army Sgt. Jeremy D. Foshee, 25, of Pisgah, Alabama.
Foshee was on board the MH-47 aircraft that crashed at sea in the southern Philippines. He was assigned to the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

Army Staff Sgt. Kerry W. Frith, 37, of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Frith was on board the MH-47 aircraft that crashed at sea in the southern Philippines. He was assigned to the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

Air Force Master Sgt. William L. McDaniel II, 36, of Greenville, Ohio.
McDaniel was on board the MH-47 aircraft that crashed at sea in the southern Philippines. He was assigned to the 353rd Special Operations Group, Kadena Air Base, Japan.

Army Capt. Bartt D. Owens, 31, of Middletown, Ohio.
Owens was on board the MH-47 aircraft that crashed at sea in the southern Philippines. He was assigned to the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

Air Force Staff Sgt. Juan M. Ridout, 36, of Maple Tree, Washington.
Ridout was on board the MH-47 aircraft that crashed at sea in the southern Philippines. He was assigned to the 353rd Special Operations Group, Kadena Air Base, Japan.

Army Staff Sgt. Bruce A. Rushforth, Jr., 35, of Middleboro, Massachusetts.
Rushforth was on board the MH-47 aircraft that crashed at sea in the southern Philippines. He was assigned to the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

Army Spc. Jason A. Disney, 21, of Fallon, Nevada.
Disney died shortly after sustaining injuries when a piece of heavy equipment fell on him at Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 7th Transportation Battalion, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

January 19, 2002

Marine Staff Sgt. Walter F. Cohee III, 26, of Wicomico, Maryland.
Cohee died when a Marine CH-53E crashed in a remote region 60 kilometers south of Bagram in Northern Afghanistan. He was assigned to Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 361 (HMH-361), the "Flying Tigers" of Marine Aircraft Group 16, Combined Task Force 58, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Corps Air Station, Miramar, California.
Marine Staff Sgt. Dwight J. Morgan, 24, of Mendocino, California.
Morgan died when a Marine CH-53E crashed in a remote region 60 kilometers south of Bagram in Northern Afghanistan. He was assigned to Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 361 (HMH-361), the "Flying Tigers" of Marine Aircraft Group 16, Combined Task Force 58, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Corps Air Station, Miramar, California.
January 9, 2002

Marine Capt. Matthew W. Bancroft, 29, of Shasta, California.
Bancroft died as a result of the crash of a KC-130/R aircraft in Pakistan. He was assigned to Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 352 (VMGR-352), the "Raiders," Combined Task Force 58, Marine Corps Air Station, Miramar, California.

Marine Lance Cpl. Bryan P. Bertrand, 23, of Coos Bay, Oregon.
Bertrand died as a result of the crash of a KC-130/R aircraft in Pakistan. He was assigned to Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 352 (VMGR-352), the "Raiders," Combined Task Force 58, Marine Corps Air Station, Miramar, California.

Marine Gunnery Sgt. Stephen L. Bryson, 35, of Montgomery, Alabama.
Bryson died as a result of the crash of a KC-130/R aircraft in Pakistan. He was assigned to Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 352 (VMGR-352), the "Raiders," Combined Task Force 58, Marine Corps Air Station, Miramar, California.

Marine Staff Sgt. Scott N. Germosen, 37, of Queens, New York.
Germosen died as a result of the crash of a KC-130/R aircraft in Pakistan. He was assigned to Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 352 (VMGR-352), the "Raiders," Combined Task Force 58, Marine Corps Air Station, Miramar, California.

Marine Sgt. Nathan P. Hays, 21, of Lincoln, Washington.
Hays died as a result of the crash of a KC-130/R aircraft in Pakistan. He was assigned to Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 352 (VMGR-352), the "Raiders," Combined Task Force 58, Marine Corps Air Station, Miramar, California.

Marine Capt. Daniel G. McCollum, 29, of Richland, South Carolina.
McCollum died as a result of the crash of a KC-130/R aircraft in Pakistan. He was assigned to Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 352 (VMGR-352), the "Raiders," Combined Task Force 58, Marine Corps Air Station, Miramar, California.

Marine Sgt. Jeannette L. Winters, 25, of Du Page, Illinois.
Winters died as a result of the crash of a KC-130/R aircraft in Pakistan. She was assigned to Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 352 (VMGR-352), the "Raiders," Combined Task Force 58, Marine Corps Air Station, Miramar, California.

January 4, 2002
